Event Background
SMEs are the engine of economic growth and prosperity. However, digital revolution and innovation have changed the way SMEs do marketing and business. Chinese Taipei partnered with the Philippines and Malaysia to propose the “APEC O2O Initiative” to enhance SME digital competitiveness and resilience so as to enable quality growth in the digital era.
According to Trend Micro’s report in 2016, the number of cyberattacks in 2016 hit the record high. The attack from ransomware in 2016 alone caused 1 billion US dollars loss globally. There is a clear example that shows that why enhancing SME Digital Competitiveness and Resilience and raising the awareness of digital security is important among APEC region. “The WannaCry ransomware attack”, a cyberattack by the WannaCry, has severely caused widespread damage all over the world. Obviously, this is a warning sign for us to take immediate actions to enhance the companies’ capability fighting against cyberattacks.
Therefore, “APEC SME Digital Resilience Training Workshop” proposed in the O2O initiative intends to bring APEC member economies together to provide them with “train-the-trainers” trainings by utilising “APEC Guidebook on SME Digital Resilience” as key training material, which was approved in the APEC O2O Expert Network Meeting by many experts specialized in cyber security related field.
Participants are expected to obtain knowledge by participating “APEC SME Digital Resilience Training Workshop” to thrive in the digital economy.
